All the pretty little horses- Should we get Gigi a pony???Please VOTE! ;-)

Gigi, my cowgirl, loves horses very, very much.

So.......

We have friends that want to give Gigi a pony.
They had Honey for their kids but the kids have outgrown her and she needs a home.
Should we get her??????????

How exciting!!!! She looks like a neat horse and Gigi does look happy. I love horses too. So do my boys.

If I was in that situation here is everything I would consider aside from, if my child wanted a horse or was ready for it:
~Be prepared for it to me my duty to care for it, if my child wasn't able.
~Be prepared for the expenses.
~Did I have a place for it? Would I need to spend money on a place for it?

Other than that I say go for it, if you are willing to take it on.

YES! Of course I'm saying this as someone with no actual working knowledge of horses aside from the vaguest of notions brought about by reading every book I could get my hands on as a girl that involved them. I'm also saying this as someone who never actually managed to talk anyone into buying her a pony, and who still obviously carries around the shreds of the deeply romanticized idea that most girls should have a pony. Even though by the time I got around to being near a real live horse I was 11 and in Girl Scouts and it was SO BIG and scary...

And, my dirty little secret - my daughter has been asking about horseback rising lessons for years now, and I've still never managed to arrange them for her. I know! Be a better Mom than I am, Alex. Get Gigi the pony. You know you want to. :P

I vote Yes! Especially if you know that it's a nice pony. When I was a kid I went over to a friend's house a couple times a week. She had the nicest little Welsh pony, Coco. :) We loved that horse. So, I would say if it's a nice horse, sweet with people and especially kids, and you and your husband are up for the work (which I think you guys are totally set up for it ;) meaning you already know how to care for livestock and know what goes into it).. Go for it!

Upkeep is gonna be a fortune; but, having said that, I vote "YES."

Ummmm . . . yeah! No question.

Go for it! How much more work could it be than all those cows?

Oh, definitely let her have the pony!! It's not like you don't have any other livestock, yanno.

Besides, who says no to a pony, when the girl who wants looks so happy on its back?

When the universe offers the perfect gift, the perfect response is "Yes, thanks!" ;D

YES! if it is a GOOD Pony that will not be mean (bite or kick) to her. But, I'm totally biased. Especially right now

The Grays vote yes so we can live vicariously through her!!!

You already have land, and that's most people's setback. You already have hay...

Why wouldn't you give a home to a pony?

If the pony is dependable and kind, ABSOLUTELY. We have never once regretted a pony for our daughter. The key here is getting a kind pony that the child can be around (on the ground especially) without you being scared.

YES!
Why do you even ask? lol

I think it sounds like a great opportunity if it's not too much trouble to set up a place for her. Horses usually need friends - I don't know if cows would suffice. You might need to get a donkey or something like that.

Hi Alex. I am trying again. :) I am glad to hear you got Honey!

Cowboy is about 18-19 or so, and the woman who is lending him to us is helping us learn about everything, she's coming to see him once a week to make sure he looks good. So far he seems OK being by himself, but that's part of why we got the goats - to keep him company!!

My daughter is having more fun cleaning the poop out of his paddock than anything else it seems, even riding him! She wants to be a pro, know how to do everything perfectly from the start, it's hard for her to have to learn things step by step.

Thanks you all. I did not know all this comments were under moderation.
I changed it and never checked.
As some of you may know we got Honey and she is doing great. Gigi rides her almost everyday ( unless its raining ).
She loves Gigi and is very sweet to her and Gigi loves her.
She looks much better now and I will post pictures soon.
Yes we had the land, the hay and I love horses and how they smell so I am happy too. Now if I can convince Brian that I need a horse too....

if you can afford it and will spend time with her, get the pony!!! If you change your mind later and your baby doesn't like the pony as much as you thought (highly unlikely) you can always pass it on down!
